6 Natural Ways Eating Certain Foods Can Help Anxiety

I have to be totally honest here, this past week I felt like I was having some major anxiety.  Really for no good reason.  Life is good, its summer, everyone is healthy.  But last week, something was not jiving in my body.  It clicked to me, my workouts lacked last week.  Don’t you always feel better after a workout?  I made it a PRIORITY to get all my workouts in this week.  I am making sure

I get that ME time (facial scheduled for Monday!).  And i am going to make sure my diet is balanced.   Life happens.  And sometimes we just can’t put a finger on why we feel the way we do.  But clean eating can really help in balancing your mind.  6 simple ways to help balance life is to make sure we are eating clean!!!!  Check out our list below: antioxidants, magnesium, flavonoids, Vitamin C,Omega-3 fatty acids and tea.  WOW…clean eating all around.  Maybe we have something here.  🙂

Antioxidants

    • They help protect your cells from stress.  In turn they may help ease anxiety.

 

  • Berries, nuts, beans, and green veggies are winners in this group

 

Magnesium

  • The natural calmer, magnesium will keep you in check
  • Greens are great for magnesium. Spinach, kale and swiss chard to name a few

 

Flavonoids

  • Flavonoids in cocoa helps protect your cells.  They can also help lower your blood pressure and boost blood flow to your brain and heart.  In turn creating a feeling of less anxiety.
  • DARK chocolate.  Specifically 70% or higher cocoa. 

 

Vitamin C

  • Studies have shown a diet rich in Vitamin C can help calm and create a better frame of mind.
  • Oranges or any citrus fruit

 

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

  • Studies have shown these fatty acids can help with depression and anxiety and help decrease inflammation
  • Sardines, salmon, albacore tuna,

 

Tea

  • Tea has that calming effect we all crave.  Antioxidants in the tea leaves also help! Teas can especially be effective when paired with certain herbs
  • Lavender and chamomile

Clean Cut Fall Pumpkin Seed Kale Salad

Salad is not just for summer!  Add a twist of fall to your next green bowl and enjoy this season with some great health benefits.  Pumpkin seeds are pretty cool, and easy to add to any salad!
  • 1 oz of pumpkin seeds pack 7g of protein, 6g of omega-6’s, and are high in fiber
  • Packed with antioxidents
  • Decrease risk of breast and prostate cancers
  • High in magnesium
  • Lowers blood sugar
  • Can improve sleep

So grab some of these powerful seeds and enjoy this fall treat!

 

Clean Cut Fall Pumpkin Seed Kale Salad
Ingredients:
4 cups chopped kale massaged with olive oil

1/2 avocado, diced
Sliced radish
1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon crumbled goat cheese (optional)
1/2 lemon
Lemon Vinaigrette:
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Juice of 1 lime
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
Whisk all the ingredients for the vinaigrette in a small bowl and set aside.
Using a large mixing bowl, add kale and 1 tbsp of olive oil and lemon on top. Massage kale with olive oil and lemon with your hands to soften. Let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then, top with diced avocado, radish, pumpkin seeds and goat cheese.  Pour vinaigrette on top and toss to combine! Serves 2

  • Chia Seeds are loaded with antioxidants
  • Almost all of the carbs in them are fiber
  • Chia Seeds are high quality protein
  • Chia Seeds deliver a massive amount of nutrients, with very few calories
  • Due to the high fiber and protein count, Chia Seeds should be able to help you lose weight

Pumpkin Chia Pudding                                          Ingredients
1 1⁄4 cup coconut or almond milk
1 cup pumpkin puree
1⁄2 cup chia seeds
1⁄4 cup or less maple syrup
2 teaspoons pumpkin spice
1⁄4 cup sliced almonds

Instructions
Mix milk, puree, chia seeds, maple syrup and spice. Cover and shake thoroughly.
Refrigerate for 3-4 hours. Mix in almonds and enjoy!
Makes 4 servings
